Leo New Moon: The Shape of My Heart

The August 2015 New Moon finds the Sun and the Moon conjunct (aligned together as illustrated in the image above) in the sign of Leo at 22 degrees at 9:53 a.m. CST.

If you look in your natal chart at the house where 22 degrees Leo falls, that is how you can tell what areas of life will be directly impacted by this fiery New Moon energy.

For example, I am a Leo rising so Leo rules my first house. Since the first house is about the individual, the theme and focus of this upcoming Moon cycle will pertain to my core identity, appearance, unique personality, physical body, and overall vitality.

The Sun loves being in Leo; this is its place of rulership and where the Leonine energy can really roam free and express itself; it comes and goes as it pleases and is its own boss.

The Moon in Leo is peregrine–a term that means neither exalted nor debilitated, but more wandering. Fire signs are very one-pointed and emotionally direct, whereas the Moon prefers to express the full range of emotions. So in Leo, the Moon can be self-centered and may even act out to receive emotional validation.

Intentions are good, of course, because the very nature of Leo energy is that of love, warmth, and generosity, so with the Moon here, of course we want to nurture and provide and share with others.

With all this Leo energy on fleek, however, we need to be aware of the difference between intentions and the reality of the outcomes from our actions. As the Moon begins this new cycle, we should be aware of group consciousness and remember our connection to the source.

In other words, we need to recognize the ONEness in everyday life.

“Looking back on the things I’ve done, I was trying to be someone; play my part. And kept you in the dark. Now let me show you the shape of my heart.” -Backstreet Boys, “Shape of My Heart”

So, how is your heart doing? What is the shape of your heart? For me, during the last moon cycle I realized my obsession with work, entrepreneurship, and business seemed to be at odds with the other vital areas of my life.

Those of us who work hard are doing it, of course, for the greater good of ourselves and our families. But what good is putting your nose to the grindstone at the expense of your children, or significant other, or close friendships? People don’t only want your dollars or your sales; they want your quality time and attention. The self-centered Leo energy can cause us to miss the forest for the trees.

Leo is all about the heart. The most prideful, egocentric Leo you know really has a tender heart and a lot of insecurity, which drives their need for praise and recognition.

Beyond that, we have a lot of things happening in Leo right now in addition to the Sun-Moon conjunction. Venus is currently retrograde in Leo and bringing even more emphasis to these matters of the heart. You may be experiencing a resurgence of appearances of former flames. You may be wondering if your heart is truly into…whatever it is you’re doing. As with any retrograde cycle, the RE- words are in play: we’re revising our life stories.

“Reread, rewrite, redo, undo. I’m stuck on this page. I was born two weeks late, is that why I hesitate? I’m on the fence. Push me off it! I want to be on your side now, and keep a promise. I’m full of artificial sweetener. My heart’s been deceitful. It’s all artificial sweetener. I’m faking ‘I love yous.’ You’re forcing me to.” -No Doubt, “Artificial Sweetener”

But no one’s really forcing you to, Gwen and everybody else.

Venus Rx in Leo will be here through September, so if you ain’t get it now, you’ll have plenty of opportunities. As she moves backward through Leo, she will conjunct the Sun, so really…listen to your heart…when it’s talking to you.

It’s all a choice; you just gotta get clear about what it is you actually want, so take a moment during this Leo New Moon to write down your revised list of intentions. And work on them, every damn day. Well, you can take Sundays off to watch Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, which is pretty much the most quality television programming all week. 🙂

We need some positive inspiration, especially with all the shadows that will be surfacing as we traverse the underworld and dig up the dregs of our innermost feelings and reexamine what our values are.

Just remember, the shadows are your best friends. We need to be told we have spinach in our teeth or that our breath stinks. We need reality checks every now and then, and we need to not wish things away, ignore the darkness, or partake in spiritual bypassing. Rage has its place. Sadness is meant to be felt. Challenges are meant to spur us into action.

After such a deep and watery emotional Cancer New Moon last month, this Leo New Moon brings us back up to the surface and prepares us to think more clearly, even if we may be more self-centered than usual.

With all this energy in Leo, thank goodness Jupiter has made its ingress into Virgo after expanding all our Leo qualities (for better or worse) over the last year.

Since Leo rules creativity, we’ve been bursting at the seams with great ideas, new projects, and creative expression, and for the last year, they’ve been supported by Jupiter, the empress of expansion and blessings. Thank goodness Jupiter has left Leo and made her ingress to picky-ass Virgo, the sign of nitpicking and perfection. While here for the next year, Jupiter will be gracious, but will still make sure that our heads don’t get too big. She won’t allow us to pile our plates too full, either, with our greedy Leo bigheads. What did we think this was, Thanksgiving?

No seriously, we can do whatever it is we choose, and the planetary energies are supportive. Jupiter is in detriment in Virgo, but it can work to our advantage by giving us the necessary balance to be discerning in the projects we take on and the ideas with which we run.

Retrograde Uranus is trine the New Moon, which is a harmonious flow of energy. The planet of unconventional experiences will give us keys to revamp our ideas in super unique and innovative ways. What already exists in the world that you can make better? There is nothing new under the sun, and sometimes the best innovations are remixes of something that already exists.

We just gotta do it Like Never Before. 😉
